Idiots are Being Sexist Again, This Time at Total War: Rome 2

How shocking.

The games industry has a long, stupid history of misogyny, and sadly, that doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. It can flare up at the stupidest times, but it really seems to kick into overdrive when people see female characters in games, particularly in historically grounded games, which means they have an “excuse” to start screeching about historical accuracy. It happened to EA’s Battlefield V when they revealed - gasp - woman soldiers on the fields of World War II (which wasn’t unprecedented, for the record), and now it’s happening again with Creative Assembly’s Total War: Rome 2, where players have decided to get pissy about the number of female characters in the game.

In the past few days, the game has raked in well over 400 negative reviews from idiots who are annoyed at the number of female generals you can get in the game.

Well, to be fair to the idiots, it’s not just the female generals in the game. It’s that the decision to have more female generals available in the game was a design decision that was defended by community content editor Ella Macconnell, who said this:

“Total War games are historically authentic, not historically accurate. If having female units upsets you that much you can either mod them out or just not play. People saying they won’t buy the game because there are too many women in it is fine with us—if that’s their reason, we’d rather they didn’t anyway.”

Given that Ella Macconnell is a woman, these idiots immediately started calling for her resignation, because it worked so well with Jessica Price they seem to think they can get away with it now. So far, Creative Assembly hasn’t responded to the outcry, but here’s hoping they either never do or they shut it down.

This is just getting embarrassing, guys.
