I Am Bread Dev's Next Game Won't Be Released Unless 100,000 People Play It

In a week. There's a time limit too.

Have you heard of Decksplash?

I sure as heck haven’t, but apparently it’s the latest game by I Am Bread and Surgeon Simulator developer Bossa Studio. Described as a mix of Splatoon and Rocket League, it pits two teams of three skateboards against each other as they perform sick tricks and flips, which will mark part of the arena as their “territory” with a splash of paint. The more impressive your tricks, the bigger splash of paint you’ll create when you stick the landing. It sounds like an interesting enough premise, and Bossa Studio seems to be hinging its bets on it, because they’ve just announced that they’re going to release the game for people to try, for free, on the second of November.

But unless 100,000 people download and play it in that time, they’re going to cancel development and scrap the game entirely. From the Steam page:

Like any proud parent, we love Decksplash, but unlike deluded creators, we want to believe that you love it too. Thus we’ve devised a ‘first of its kind’ experiment: The Splash N’ Grab! We’re releasing the game free for a week AND if 100K people download, play, and have fun, we’ll instantly launch the game at the end of the free week. If not… RIP Decksplash.

The game’s future is in YOUR hands. We hope you have fun being a part of gaming history! (However it turns out -- fingers crossed...)

…Alright then. Seems like an odd caveat, especially since 100,000 players is actually a pretty huge number for a small game released by a small, albeit successful studio. I can’t shake the feeling there’s some sort of catch of trick up their sleeves when they make such a promise, but, this studio isn’t exactly known for being the most “normal” kids on the block, are they?

We’ll have to see how it does.
