Huge Trove of Internal Nintendo Data Leaked

It's the kind of stuff data miners dream of.

Nintendo, the famously clandestine mastermind behind the Virtual Boy, ARMS, and a few other games and consoles you might have heard of, recently suffered an enormous leak of its internal data, giving fans and hackers alike one of the most intimate looks at the house of N’s coding and design process ever.

Within the thousands of leaked files, there’s the Wii’s source code, hardware test demos for the Nintendo 64, information regarding the internal workings of the Nintendo Gamecube, and apparently a number of datasheets, block diagrams, and Verilog files for every component of the Wii’s hardware, which would help someone learn how to make their own exact version of the Wii. In short: it’s the kind of stuff that would make an emulator or data miner drool.

Here’s some of that N64 test footage: specifically, of a game called “Mirror House Cornflakes”, which is about as crude as crude can get, but we’re looking at footage from before the N64 was even ready to be shown to the public for the first time. Even more charmingly, apparently Nintendo even wrote a plot for this demo.

TO BEGIN This software is a 3D maze game. The character (Flake) is manipulated to reach the goal (corn flakes).
STORY A cheerful little boy named Flake just loves corn flakes. One day, Flake heard talk of a mysterious castle that was filled with corn flakes. "I can't just sit here! I'm gonna go find those cornflakes!"
OBJECTIVE Reach the goal within the allotted time. If you don't make it, Flake's stomach will go empty and the game will be over.

Apparently, approximately 3GB’s worth of data was leaked to the public, although Reddit and 4chan users (where the data was leaked) suspect its but a small sample of a larger trove of data that’s out there.

Nintendo, who is no doubt less than happy about this, has yet to comment. But their lawyers are probably on high alert.
