Moment of honesty: I too have fantasized about a real-life Rocket League game. Which is why I was overly excited when I heard that Hot Wheels are making exactly that. Well, almost exactly that.
Unveiled at the Toy Fair in New York, The Mattel company has teamed up with Psyonix to create a real-life Rocket League board game. This means its small RC cars and a normal sized ball, instead of the normal cars/giant ball idea that I first envisioned. This comes with a stadium, a ball, 2 cars, and goals.
The 2 "rocket cars" are controlled by smart devices via Bluetooth, and are designed after the Dominus and the Octane. The goalposts use infrared sensors to detect goals, activating the same sound effects you'll hear in the video game. On the digital front, the board game will also come with digital codes for in-game items.
This will be the second time Hot Wheels and Psyonix have worked together. Their first partnership was when Hot Wheels vehicles were added to the game as DLC cars.
I know what you're thinking: When and how much? The Hot Wheels/Rocket League board game will cost $180.00 and will be available this holiday season. You can watch video footage of the board game in action by the CNET Instagram. It's a bit overpriced for the concept if you ask me.
