Thanks to VG24/7, I've come across an interesting indie game titled Home Free. Currently on Kickstarter, Home Free is quite unique--odd considering the plethora of similar indie games out there--because you are transported into the paws of a stray dog. A survival sim set in a modern day city and featuring action-RPG elements, Home Free challenges you to survive the stray life in a big city, where there will be plenty of people who adore you, and yet many who will find you an enemy.

When thinking about a stray dog, what comes to mind in terms of living conditions? Well, to begin, you may think of scavenging for food in the trash, begging for food, killing small animals, and more. Well in Home Free, you will be able to do just that... well more like you will be able to beg, forage, and steal food from others. You won't be able to kill squirrels and birds. You will also need to rely on different types of shelter for the night, like a cardboard box. Ultimately, the goal is to find a permanent home with a human. Until then, you make the streets yours, all while befriending dogs and human citizens.

Procedurally generated, Home Free will be tailored to each playthrough, where every nook and cranny has been generated to make the game personal. Additionally, the narrative is player-driven, meaning that the choices you make as a dog ultimately affect the outcome of your tale and survival.

So if the story is heartwarming, what about the gameplay? Surely it must be good.

Well, it sounds good. You will be able to wrestle, wriggle and pounce with other canines whether for play or territory, mastering abilities over time. As it has mentioned, it is an action-RPG, so there will be plenty of growth involved.

Last, but certainly not least, Home Free actually has another game attached to it, titled Dog Park, which is a local multiplayer "wrasslin'" game where you play with your friends... as dogs.

As of the time of this writing, 987 backers pledged $30,645 (out of $50,000) with 28 days to go. So assuredly, the title will meet its initial goal, but hopefully will be able to reach its stretch goals that contains cats and additional breeds.

Home Free is expected to launch during the fall of 2016 for both PC and Mac. If you'd like to back the team, you can always visit their Kickstarter page here.

Forewarning: This video will flood you with many feels.
