In an effort to build pre-reveal hype, IO Interactive and Warner Bros. accidentally leaked Hitman 2.
The developer and publisher both posted on social media, indicating toward a reveal scheduled for Thursday, June 7. Hitman fans quickly determined that the two posts were related and that Warner Bros would be publishing a new Hitman game.
Shortly after this, fans discovered a logo on the WB Games' online servers of a "Hitman 2," (seen as the header image). The image has since been removed from said servers, however.
So it's a safe assumption that the two organizations intend to announce Hitman 2 this Thursday. As for what exactly the game is, is uncertain. Many believe it to be a sequel to the episodic reboot game released in 2016, while discussion has been split as to if it is a continuation of the first game, or if it is a new branch in the Hitman universe.
Warner Bros and IO Interactive first announced their partnership in April, turning IO into a studio, with WB publishing. Under this partnership, they released Hitman: Definitive Edition, a collection featuring the games Year One and Game of the Year Edition content, along with new cosmetic items, in May.
UPDATE:
As expected, the Thursday announcement was Hitman 2. This new game will feature a brand new campaign, new missions, the high-stakes Elusive Targets and more free live content. For more information, visit the Hitman website, or watch the announcement trailer below.
