There are a number of video game characters that are becoming more and more a part of what we are exposed to daily on television, social media, the press, and even in the movies. Sometimes a hit movie will spawn a video game that becomes an equally large hit for the console gaming crowd. This article will cover some of the hit movies that ended up inspiring video games. If you're looking for the films that inspired these games, visit https://www.saveontvdirect.com/ to look up show times so you can set your DVR.

GoldenEye 007 was an immensely popular game for the Nintendo 64 console. Based on the James Bond movie of the same name, it is widely considered to be the best game released for the N64. Praised for its detailed terrain and buildings (at the time) and complex puzzles and traps, it wowed many gamers for its immersive game play. First person shooters weren't very common on consoles at the time, so Nintendo gambled on this new genre and hit the jackpot. The variety of weapons as well as the accuracy of the weapons also made the multi-player mode one of the most popular modes, and ensured repeat playing even when the main story arc was completed. The ability to zoom in through your sniper rifle's scope was revolutionary at the time, though it is standard on first person shooters these days. The game also inspired a remake, GoldenEye 007: Reloaded for the Xbox 360 and PS3, this time featuring Daniel Craig as 007.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (aka Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in the U.K.) is one of the most beloved book series and the biggest movie franchises of the past decade. Almost as soon as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone became a big hit at the box office in 2001, Electronic Arts released a video game that had many elements of the film. The game was originally released on the Playstation One and the Windows platforms. It combined shooter style gameplay (without the guns, of course) and puzzles. In 2003, the game was re-imagined for the next generation of consoles, and was released for the XBox, Playstation 2, and the GameCube with a heavier emphasis on spells. This version of the game actually combined the next Harry Potter film's content (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) by introducing new spells that were included in that film.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers was a video game based on the first two Lord of the Rings movies, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Lord of the Rings: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. The game is perhaps best classified as a Role Playing Game, although it did contain elements from other game types as well. The game was released by Electronic Arts and was released simultaneously across all three major platforms including the Playstation 2, the Xbox, and the GameCube. The game is rather unusual in that it does not allow gamers to play as Frodo or Sam, who were very notable as the main characters early on. However, important characters including Legoloas, Aragorn, and Gimli are all playable. The game was particularly highly praised by many for its smooth transition from cut scenes to actual gameplay and was one of the first games to truly show what a powerhouse the next generation consoles of 2002 could be.

There are tons of movies that are being made into video games recently, frequently with terrible results and crappy game play. Most adaptations miss the mark and are thrown together with bad graphics and loose story lines to cache in on a movies popularity. The above selections are examples of good development that transfers the immersion of the movie into a gaming world. For some classic retro play definitely check out these titles.
