The announcement was made by Jenova Chen, the co-founder and creative director of thatgamecompany, the development team behind the game. The Twitter post was a simple "out now!" type message, linking to the iOS store page.
Journey the older sister of Sky is out on iOS today! Thanks to @A_i and @SonySantaMonica, three thatgamecompany games are within my pocket ready to play at all time!
This is in reference to two more thatgamecompany games, Flower and Sky: Children of the Light, which also released on iOS.
In Journey, the player controls a hooded figure in a warm and arid desert. They have to navigate through puzzles, using a magical force to aid them. The premiere feature of the game is the seamless co-op functionality. The game pairs you with another person in the world also playing the game. With the only means of communication being a ping action, the two players must silently work together to reach the end.
Having released seven years ago on PS3, Journey recently came back into modern media when a PC port of the game was announced as an Epic Games Store exclusive.
Journey for iOS is available now on the iOS App Store for $4.99
