Having lingered on Steam's Early Access program for awhile now, Hero Defense - Haunted Island has improved with regular updates every Tuesday, focusing on gameplay balancing, fan-requested features, difficulty adjustments, UI tweaks, and various bug fixes. Happy Tuesday, the team behind Hero Defense - Haunted Island, has worked closely with the community for every update, and the collaboration has finally come to fruitition.
A bit more about Hero Defense - Haunted Island:
Players face off in a fast-paced, highly-competitive 1v1 multiplayer mode that emphasizes strategy. Each player will have five heroes at their disposal, with the ability to equip different skills and runes. The players must face waves after waves of undead, and the first player to defeat their wave will be able to dismantle the opponent's defense through abilities known as Punishments, which allows players to customize the next "creep" wave by buffing the wave or swapping the creepy type so that only a specific hero can defeat them. Using this knowledge, the player can overwhelm the opponent and take the battle.
The multiplayer update adds three new maps (though there are a total of eight planned when the game leaves Early Access in the summer).
Not only will players be able to access multiplayer, but the Multiplayer Season has begun, which is a week-long event where players compete in ranked matches to claim the title of champion. Mutiplayer Seasons will be held every week, and progress will be reset at the end of the season.
According to Karsten Harle, CEO of Happy Tuesday in regards to the update:
"After a week of closed beta testing with our beloved community members, multiplayer is now available. We've worked long and hard to innovate on classic Tower Defense mechanics, and I think players of Hero Defense will be quite surprised how competitive we've made this mode. I look forward to their reactions!"
Hero Defense - Haunted Island is available on Steam and the Humble Store for $14.99 / 14.99 / £10.99. So far, the reviews on Steam have been "Very Positive," with claims that the game is very interactive and wields a story that motivates the player to challenge himself or herself. It even managed to change players' opinions on the Tower Defense genre! Curious about the gameplay? Well, check out the launch trailer here:
