Hearthstone Adds New Hero Skin to Store

For the Alliance!

What’s the biggest problem with Hearthstone? Is it the way it borders on pay-to-win territory with expensive decks and difficult-to-earn gold? Is it the way the meta changes with every patch and everyone complains about one particular class being OP? Is it certain legendary cards (that will remain unnamed) being so genuinely overpowered to the point of dominating professional play?

Of course, any true Warcraft fan knows the answer: the ACTUAL biggest problem with Hearthstone is the fact you have no choice but to play the filthy Horde if you want to be a hunter or a warrior, or you’re stuck playing the puny Alliance if you’re keen on the Mage or the Paladin. Which is honestly no trifling matter: clan loyalty among World of Warcraft fans run deep (especially with ten years for that clan loyalty to cement) so it can genuinely bother players to have no choice but to do battle as “the enemy”.

Is it worth ten dollars to remedy that…? Eh…

Yesterday, Blizzard announced that new “Hero Skins” would be released, which would allow you to swap one of the pre-determined 9 heroes with someone on the other side of the battle. The first of those skins, Magni Bronzebeard, will replace your standard Hellscream with the acclaimed Dwarven king of Ironforge, and 200% badass.

As noted, this change will cost you ten bucks, but you’ll get more out of it than just an updated hero portrait: the portrait itself will be animated, and will come with a special animation when you use your hero ability (which is exactly the same as Hellscream's, this update is completely cosmetic). You’ll also get new emotes to sling at your enemy, and new card backs which match your chosen hero.

Right now, Magni is the only hero portrait available, but more will be coming along soon, enough to give all 9 classes both an Alliance and a Horde option, I assume. Each one, however, will probably be ten bucks, so… getting the whole collection will cost quite a bit. Still, for some people, it might be worth it. If I still played… well… let’s see who the hunter is before I commit to anything, shall we?
