Despite all the video game controversy surrounding EA and Star Wars Battlefront II, we shouldn't forget that games are being released, even the more obscure ones such as Hyakki Castle, from Japanese publisher Happinet. Happinet announced today that Hyakki Castle has launched on PC via Steam.

The tale, which shines a spotlight on the 18th century Edo Period of Japan, brings to life the "Fantastical World" folklore and ghost stories to life with a uniquely implemented Ukiyoe style. Players will step foot through the castle, trudging through and battling against demons and ghosts. And even cooler is that you can select between a Samurai or Ninja as you scour the corridors filled with traps. To defeat the Lord of the castle, you must rely on your cunning and strength. Can you do so?

As a ninja (or even a samurai) the answer should be, "Of course!"

As for the gameplay, expect a traditional real-time dungeon RPG battle system, where you are encouraged to split your party into two. You must work together with unique skills and up to four equippable actions to counter what is thrown at you.

According to Masaru Saito, the producer at Happinet:

All of us are particularly enthusiastic for the opportunity to add our contribution to the dungeon RPG genre, creating a thrilling, mysterious, and suspenseful experience. Were proud that Hyakki Castle showcases the deep roots of Japans rich folklore and hope it delivers an exceptional and gratifying experience to RPG fans around the world.

Those who are interested may be able to purchase Hyakki Castle on Steam at a 20 percent discount for $19.99 throughout the first week of launch. If that doesn't tempt you, maybe the fact that Happinet team will continue to support the title with free dungeons.
