343 Industries is definitely serious about its flagship franchise, Halo. Though Bungie had abandoned the series a couple of years ago, 343i has been determined to keep the first person shooting space adventure afloat for not one, five, or ten years, but instead 30. Yes 343i wants to continue Halo until the 2030s and beyond. In a recent interview with Bonnie Ross, head manager of 343i, she mentioned how difficult it was to start up and run the studio. Her goal for the studio and Halo?
To secure a future with more women as game developers for 343i and the gaming industry in general. Not only that, but Ross would like the studio to ensure that Halo introduced both females and male protagonists that people could identify with. As players, we can definitely expect more Halo related games beyond the Reclaimer Trilogy that includes Halo 4, 5, and 6. In 2013, however, the ideas for expansion beyond Halo 6 was confirmed by Microsoft when it began to refer to Halo as a saga rather than a trilogy.
Is it possible that someday 343i will drift away from numbered entries of the series and move into more spinoffs. The question to consider is, however, Is there enough material to maintain interest in the Halo saga for 30 years? I think it is possible, but the studio definitely need to choose its cards carefully, especially after the messy release of The Master Chief Collection.
