Well, it had to happen eventually. The upcoming Halo Reach game will be Bungie's last venture into the Halo universe. The game is set for release in the fall of 2010. It will mark Bungie's 5th incarnation of Halo bringing the game back before Halo Combat Evolved transpired. Truthfully I believe it to be more of a 4 1/2 since Halo ODST is more of an expansion than a true sequel.

Here's some of what Bungie had to say;

"After Reach that’s it for us," Bungie's Lars Bakken told IGN. "We're already working on a new IP that we can't talk about yet, I don't know when we'll be talking about it – when we're ready I suppose."

"If you look at Bungie's past we've done a lot of different styles – first person to third person to RTS – so it could be anything."

As for future Halo games, they will be overseen by the recently revealed 343 Industries, which is headed up by former Bungie employee Frank O'Connor.
