The trailer itself is a bit more subdued I will admit so one would presume they're going for a larger reveal at a future date, at least one would hope but here is how Microsoft describes the series that will debut with The Masterchief Collection on November 11th of this year;
Halo: Nightfall introduces a pivotal new character, Jameson Locke, a legendary manhunter and agent with the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), Earths most powerful and secretive military branch. When he and his team are caught in a horrific biological attack, they unravel a plot that draws them to an ancient, hellish artifact, where they will be forced to fight for their survival, question everything, and ultimately choose between their loyalties and their lives.
As mentioned in our previous article, Halo Nightfall's events take place inbetween Halo 4 and Halo 5 Guardians and Locke will play a large role in Halo 5 it is appears.
One curious line in the trailer is of the substance that is "sourced from Hell" of which I believe to be what killed the colony at the end of the Halo 4 credits. It makes perfect sense, right?
There was a panel at the recent Comic-Con in which several of the actors provided us with a good bit of detail including the following from Mike Colter who plays the lead character, Jameson Locke who is a rising Spartan;
"(The) script was incredibly gripping. It introduces an intriguing and mysterious world that I wanted to know more about It was a new medium for me. Who would the audience be? How would they access the series? Fortunately, ensuring accessibility to a broad audience is one of the things that Scott Free TV and 343 values first and foremost. Not only does Halo: Nightfall cater to the hardcore Halo fans, but it's also designed so newcomers to the franchise, like me, can easily enter the Halo universe, identify with the characters and be entertained by the story being told on screen...
My favorite experience thus far would be shooting a scene in Belfast where I'm chasing an enemy who poses a serious threat to the people Agent Locke has sworn to protect through the city. The scene is an action-packed sequence that involves some cool special effects and a lot of coordination with the stunt team to fulfill the director's vision. I can't wait to see how it turns out.
Christina Chong (From the upcoming Star Wars VII film) will co-star as Talitha Macer who is an unresentful member of the Colonial Guard it is said. She mentioned that she is a loyal and ambitious character set out to prove her value as an Elite soldier. The connection between those both characters will appear to be even larger with a heavy crossover between "Nightfall" and "Guardians" when it comes out.
And here's a fun comment she made from the panel that Chong had made;
"If you don't watch ('Nightfall') first, you're an idiot," O'Connor told the crowd, eliciting laughter. "It won't affect your ability to enjoy and play 'Halo 5.' You will get to go on that journey both literally and metaphorically with (Locke) in the game."
New mediums aside, I'm sure the version that comes with The Masterchief Collection will contain an Extended Cut much like Halo 4 Forward Unto Dawn had. One thing that makes me feel good is the multiple locales (Shot in Iceland and Northern Ireland) it appears that they are filming in and that they aren't solely relying on the green screen. So this leaves the question, just how large of a role will Locke play and will any other character from this series make future appearances along side Masterchief? It seems from all the talk that they will be partners of sorts, similar to that of the Arbiter perhaps in status? Another character that I truly hope to see would be Dr Halsey. Why? So we can learn more about that opening scene from Halo 4! Enough with the wishes for now!
Well... Those are your up-to-date details on Halo Nightfall, for now, I'll leave you with the Nightfall movie poster to get you excited...
