But fans want more than assumptions: they want hard facts. Which is why it should come as a great disappointment to them that in a IGN video with Bonnie Ross, head of Microsoft's 343 Industries, all fans got were even more cryptic hints about what’s coming, rather than anything solid they could be reasonably hyped for.
Still, as cryptic hints go, it’s fairly telling.
"There has been a lot of introspective time to really reflect on what's done as 343. Where have we made mistakes? Where have we hit it right? What does Halo mean to all of us? That trailer [for Halo Infinite] we did is what Halo means to the studio... Maybe it took us two games to get there, and I think we've done good things and bad things, but what does Halo mean to us? It is about hope, and wonder, and heroism, and humanity, and community, and bringing a community together. That's what that trailer is, and that's what we want to do."
She also thinks of it as something of a “spiritual reboot” of the series, now that they’ve gotten some experience with two other games.
Pretty bold to suggest you’re rebooting the classic game that put Microsoft and the Xbox on the map, even if you do soften it with “spiritual”. Here’s hoping they can live up to that high standard.
