The 2020 Xbox Games Showcase, hosted as part of the Summer Games Fest, has come to an end. And with it, were seeing more information about Halo: Infinite than ever before, including gameplay!
Xbox held an online event earlier today (July 23, 2020). With and pre and post show hosted by Geoff Keighley, the digital live stream presented a number of new game announcements. This ranged from new games to additional information on highly anticipated game.
The front runner of the event was Microsofts premiere franchise, Halo. It began with a new cinematic trailer for Halo: Infinite. At least we thought it was a trailer, at first. After about a minute and a half, it transitions into demo gameplay.
Skip to about an hour and 26 minutes in to see the unaltered footage. Xbox also published an edited, compressed gameplay trailer, which can be seen here.
The cinematic portion reveals a great deal of information about both the timeline and overall plot of Halo: Infinite. Taking place on May 28, 2560 (about six months after the events of the last game), a group of brute-centric covenant known as the Banished are back, threatening the livelihood of mankind in their quest to gain the power of the largest Halo ring weve seen yet.
Earlier this week, Microsoft was posting teaser videos to promote todays event. Dedicated members of the community managed to sniff out a few hidden details. Todays reveal shows that many of their theories were spot on! Though in an interview with creative director Paul Crocker, its revealed that the main antagonist monologuing at the end is NOT Hyperius, but a new leader called Escharum.
Following the broadcast, a wave of new information was sprouting from Xbox and news sites alike. The aforementioned interview with Crocker tells us that the game will support split screen as well as co-op mode. Developers 343 appear to be approaching the game as a love letter to the franchise, re-introducing aspects of the original.
Other information that was uncovered includes a confirmation that the game will run at 60 frames per second, that the halo ring is several times larger than the last two Halo games combined,
They also say that the players will have the freedom to explore the Halo ring. What this means isnt entirely clear. We have a hard time believing that the game will feature an open world aspect, given the franchise history.
This will also be the first time a Halo title is launching on Xbox and PC at launch. The pre-order page has already appeared on Steam, even.
All of this new information has us excited, thats for sure. Halo: Infinite will launch alongside the Xbox Series X this holiday season.
