Halo 5 is just around the corner, and all around the world, Halo fans are hugging their Contra pillows counting the seconds away… or just kind of waiting with a mild anticipation, considering this will be the second Halo game coming out of 343 Industries, who has thus far proven to be competent but not revolutionary with the Halo franchise. Halo 4 was, by all accounts, a perfectly fine if not repetitive shooter, putting Halo on the same secure but mediocre path that Call of Duty and Battlefield currently walk.

Well, Halo 5 might change that, it might not, but there’s one thing we know for sure: It’ll sell well enough to earn itself a sequel. And 343 Industries isn’t only prepared for it, they’re already working on it… according to franchise development director Frank O’Connor in an interview with GamesRadar.

"We do kind of know what's going to happen in the next game pretty well at this point. We're doing serious real planning and even some writing on the next game already, and that's a luxury - we've never been in that position before. So we both know at a very high level what's going to happen in, say, 10 years from now. But at that very granular level knowing what's going to happen in the next game and that's just been a great feeling for me."

343 studio chief Bonnie Ross picked up where he left off, saying;

“You can look at the ending of Halo 4 - and where Master Chief is and obviously we had to know where we were going to take Halo 5 and Halo 6 with that. You have an epic sci-fi universe and we have multiple ways that we can go with this story, but all the pieces are laying there. The canvas is there for us to paint."

While he reiterated nothing is set in stone the fact remains that they are working on the next Halo game even as we speak. Pretty crazy, huh? But when a triple-A developer like 343 Studios does it, it at least makes sense--better than when Indie Developers do it just because they assume their first game will be a smash hit.

But that’s none of my business.
