It's been awhile since our last Halo 4 update so this will be a big one starting with the recently released Halo 4 E3 2012 trailer! Check it out below along with a slew of other info which includes greater detail on multiplayer, a cool perks system that is in the works as well as a live action Halo 4 web series that is in the works!

  • Halo Infinity Multiplayer: Halo 4's multiplayer will revolve around the UNSC Infinity, a starship that serves as the center of your Spartan career. Here's where you build and customize your multiplayer character, and "progress your multiplayer career" through all Halo 4 co-op and competitive multiplayer game modes. The idea is to embed the mutliplayer experience into the larger fictional universe of Halo, and to create a system where you "progress and game choices affect your appearance, arsenal and role on the battlefield."
  • Spartan Ops: Think of this as the intersection between Halo 4's campaign mode and multiplayer modes. 343 describes it as "an episodic adventure that blends immersive storytelling, high-quality cinematics, and action-packed gameplay to deliver and unprecedented serialized experience." In a nutshell, weekly episode of a cinematic show about the crew of the Infinity will be watchable through Xbox Live. These will set the scene for the week's Spartan Ops gameplay missions. These missions will be co-op or single-player. This is provided at no charge.
  • War Games: This is what game modes that take place on the Infinity are called in the Halo universe. War Games promise the kind of immersive multiplayer Halo is known for, but will offer "fresh, immersive new game modes and strategies." More specific details on the War Game modes are coming.
  • Perks: For the first time ever, Halo multiplayer will feature useful perks. They're described as "a new loadout and player progression system, and a new armor modification system that introduces gameplay-enhancing customization"

Other big news is that there appears to be a live action web series in the works produced by Machinima.com and Halo Waypoint-hosted. The series will be titled Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn and heres how Variety describes the plans for the series...

"Forward Unto Dawn" will play out over five weekly installments, around 15 minutes each, telling an original story about the games Master Chief and how he inspired a young UNSC cadet who will eventually become a leader aboard the UNSC Infinity spacecraft. Introduction of the new character will tie in with the plot of "Halo 4," while providing a flashback to the beginning of the "Halo" franchises war between the humans and the evil Covenant.

Microsoft isn't giving any further details, but it did share the teaser image shown here.

The Halo 4 video game is due out November 6, 2012. It's the first installment from Microsoft's 343 Industries, which took over the franchise from the original creators, Bungie Studios.
