Halo 3, 4, ODST, and CEA Join Xbox One Backwards Compatibility

But is it as big a deal as it sounds?

Earlier today, new additions were made to the official Xbox One backwards compatibility list, specifically Halo 3, Halo 4, Halo ODST, and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary edition

While at first, this may sound like an exciting advancement towards bringing the all of Halo to the current generation, this does not actually make that great of a change. Halo: The Master Chief Collection for the Xbox One was a compilation of Halo 1, 2, 3, and 4. This collection not only contained and reformatted these games to accommodate the Xbox One but provided graphical upgrades as well to best take advantage of the more powerful technology. Having released on November 11, 2014, nearly three years ago, the only member of the Halo series previously unplayable on the Xbox One is Halo ODST. A title that was heavily criticized for having a diminished single player experience in favor for improved multiplayer. Fortunately online multiplayer will still work with backwards compatibility.

The question to ask now is...

Will Halo 2 get backwards compatibility?

While playable via the Master Chief Collection, It remains to be the only Halo title that hasn't gotten this same treatment. This is presumably because it wasn't for Xbox 360 but released in the life of the original Xbox. So it makes sense that it would not be included in the list of  Xbox 360 backwards compatible games.

While not as impressive of an act as it sounds, I am still happy to hear that efforts are being made towards the preservation of an amazing first-person shooter experience.
