After a mere seven months since its release, Valve's Steam Controller has hit a sales milestone. According to Valve's blog, 500,000 units have sold since it's launch in November 2015. That is some refreshing news, especially when considering how their other hardware options are not quite performing so well. While these controllers are far from replacing the competition, it is a solid start nonetheless. Valve has intentions on climbing further up the hardware ladder, as the blog post continues to reveal current and future updates.

Walking and driving and flying, oh my!

Above is one of the updates. Valve claims that players are now able to swap between different controller settings within the same game with the push of a button. This would definitely come in handy when changing between firing a gun and getting in the driver seat of a car. They covered other changes as well. Players can make universal controls across entire libraries, feel vibrations prompted by games, and even interact fully with VR. Steam Controllers are now compatible with more games than ever, and many developers are releasing new games that work with it right away. All of this comes just months after encouraging players to mod the Steam Controllers themselves.

The news doesn't stop there. To increase functionality with keyboard heavy controls, Valve hopes to implement functions to stand in for more complex actions, such as double clicking, dragging, and more. The Steam Controller has come a long way so far, and it hasn't even celebrated a birthday. Moreover, it appears that there are still big plans to come! Valve's future in hardware may be unclear, but its controller is definitely sticking around.
