Hackers Crack Assassin's Creed Origins After 3 Months

Longer than people expected, believe it or not.

Months after release, Assassins Creed Origins has been successfully cracked by Italian hacking group CPY.

Announced via the CrackWatch subreddit, the hacking group managed to bypass multiple anti-piracy measures placed within the game. This includes VMProtect, Uplay Security, and the still controversial Denuvo. Many legitimate buyers had complained about the bogging down the computers due to the increase in their systems resource usage.

The question with these cracks has never been "if," but "when." Nearly every single major anti-tampering system has been figured out, making it only a matter of time before a title is cracked. In 2017 we saw a fair number of major titles have their security methods bypassed in record times. Major titles like Tekken 7 have been cracked in mere hours after the games official release.

CPY has been responsible for a long list of big-name games being cracked, Though they and many other hackers had hit a brick wall with Denuvo 4.8, it was eventually bypassed with Sonic Forces in January. It's taken Assassins Creed Origins even longer since it uses Denuvo 4.8 alongside VRProtect and Uplay protections.

What will happen next? A common action by publishers is to patch out the DRM software once the game has been cracked. When this happened with Doom (2016), a spokesperson stated that the anti-piracy system had already accomplished the main goal of protecting the game during its initial sales window. Since the release sales window has passed, it would make sense for the same to happen with Assassins Creed Origins. Ubisoft has a history of keeping the software in regardless, however.
