GTA V for the PC will release tomorrow on Steam and other gaming distributors, much to the excitement of the PC master race who has been insisting—nay, DEMANDING—that the latest iteration of Rockstar’s famous sandbox crime simulator be released on their preferred gaming hardware. But while the PC version of the game will have a hefty suite of new and improved content for returning and new, it seems Rockstar was saving the best for last: they just released a new video showing off the Rockstar Editor, a in-game video recording and editing program for both capturing stunts and producing your own ‘mini-movies’.

Check it out:

So it’s basically a built in, slightly less refined version of machinima. You can record gameplay clips, or even design new ones, splicing together video to make a coherent story or just show off the highlights of a particularly intense heist. Looking closely at the preview, it looks like the longest ‘movies’ you can make are around 43 minutes long, which is a pretty giant chuck of time, all things considered. Maybe with clipping, you could make it even longer… even a full-length movie?

Exciting possibilities, to be sure! There’s no news on if this particular feature will find itself on other gaming consoles, but I honestly wouldn’t think so. Splicing a movie together with a mouse and keyboard is easy, but a controller? Might lead to problems. Still, if Sony can do it with the PS4, we can at least hold our breaths.

Either way, tomorrow’s gonna be a good day for GTA fans.
