Groundhog Day, the hit film starring Bill Murray, is getting a sequel. But it's not another film, it's a VR game called Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son.

In an announcement on the PlayStation Blog, Creative Director and CEO of Tequila Works Raul Pubio has announced their plans for the Groundhog Day VR game. In partnership with Sony Pictures Virtual Reality and MWM Immersive, Tequila Works expects to produce the game.

"In Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son, youll play the charming but arrogant Phil Connors Jr., who grew up in the shadow of his father a man who spent a lifetime repeating a single day until he had made it perfect. But for Phil Jr., today is the worst day of his life. Hes trapped back home in Punxsutawney, the small town he thought hed escaped where he cant even get a decent cappuccino and hes going to have to repeat the day over and over until he learns the true value of friends and family."

Tequila Works is best known for their 2017 title The Invisible Hours. It featured what they call a "spherical narrative," which is where multiple storylines are taking place at the same time and within the same space. The idea, while nothing new, would flow wonderfully in the repeating-day format of Groundhog Day.

"Like we did in The Invisible Hours, we are working with talented facial and motion capture artists to create a unique, immersive experience. Using our dedicated VR tools and the support of SPVR and MWM Immersive, a leading creator of high-quality VR and AR experiences, we have been able to create gameplay that is accessible and highly engaging."

Given the SPVR partnership, we can expect this one to be a PlayStation VR exclusive, though this hasn't been confirmed at this time. Either way, we're looking forward to it. More information can be found on their official website.
