Good Old Games to Sell Movies, TV Shows, DRM-Free

Good Old Games and Moviies just doesn't sound as catchy, though.

As much as I like GoG, I do like to poke fun at it from time to time as being a copycat of Steam, especially since it announced Linux support right around the time Steam got their own library Linux-compatible. I mean, sure, the two were different enough—GoG has an heavy emphasis on DRM-free games and older titles that Steam might not carry, but it seems even that distinction wasn't enough for GoG, because now it's gone ahead and started selling TV shows and movies on its marketplace.

Exciting news? Maybe not, but it's news nonetheless.

As of right now, things are pretty small: a handful of 6 dollar documentaries about video games and the internet in general, like The Art of Playing, The King of Arcades, Please Subscribe, The Space Invaders, and Pixel Poetry, but they plan on expanding that library as time goes on. Of course, like their games, these will all be DRM –free and downloaded onto your hard drive, so they might have a hard time selling their service to the big production companies in Hollywood, but for the time being it's a nice platform for these documentaries, at least.

Oh, and The Art of Playing and TPB AFK: The Pirate Bay Away From Keyboard are currently available free!

It's worth note that they hope that $6 dollars will be the standard cost of any and all movies, and that “added goodies” will be packed onto each purchase to give the buyer the most bang for their buck, but then we haven't actually seen what these might include so it could just be promotional jargon.

So yeah—feel free to check that out, if it so suits your fancy. I'm interested to see where it goes, since I like GoG so much, but I don't plan on buying anything myself, yet.
