It’s summer, so you know what that means?
Yep, time to kiss your cash goodbye as digital distributors conspire to keep you away from natural sunlight. The Steam Summer sale was announced by Valve, with the starting bell ringing on June 11th, but it seemed a 8 day wait was far too long for the folks at Good Old Games, otherwise known as “trying really hard to be seen as competitors for Steam, no really”, announced that they were going to start THEIR summer sale immediately, and that it will run all the way till the 21st.
Called the 2015 DRM-free Summer Sale, it’s got pretty much everything you’d expect from a summer sale: discounted games and bundles (over 700 to choose from!) with discounts scaling from the small to the gigantic (up to 90% off!). But these aren’t just old duds thou—today, The Witcher 3 and Battlemage: Litchdom were both on sale for a pretty good amount, and more deals are incoming. According to GoG, we can expect new sales every twelve hours, and 100’s of deals every day.
That’s neat, but again, it’s nothing that Steam won’t do as well. So, to sweeten the deal, GoG has added a second incentive: rewards! The more you spend, the more you earn, with free games being unlocked the more you spend. Buy anything up to a dollar and you automatically get Sim City 2000. 20 bucks will net you S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Clear Skies, and 50 will get you Xenonauts!
I’ve always been impressed with Good Old Games’ commitment to quality and customer service, and this time is no different. That said… why call it the DRM-Free Summer Sale? We already know that’s your gimmick, GoG, you don’t have to remind us every damn minute. I’ll dock you points for that, but otherwise, I look forward to seeing what’s on sale!
