We, the game buying public, sure like to complain about Valve and their online storefront, Steam. And there’s lots to complain about: the fact that nobody likes Valve anymore, the continued flood of crappy games that clog the early access system, the continued failure of their moderators… and yet, despite all these problems, people seem unwilling to migrate to the far superior GoG Games, which is not only comparable to Steam in terms of service, but is actually run by CD Projekt Red, a studio that people love (even if they have a pretty crappy history when it comes to treating their employees well).

Regardless, GoG games has just turned 10. Congratulations.

So it's been a decade. Ten years of friendships that'll last us forever, ten years with the most vivacious community of gamers, and above all ten years of unconfined DRM-free delight.

The little site they’ve built for themselves is actually quite nice: on top of a little video detailing bits of their history, they also have a timeline you can click through that tells the story of GoG games and, by extension, CD Projekt Red. But while that’s all cool and all, what we’re here for is the anniversary present - to celebrate their birthday, they decided they’re going to give you the present. Sorta like Jesus.

All you have to do is pop over to the website and vote on which of the three games on offer you’d like for free: Shadow Warrior 2, Superhot, or Firewatch. The winning game will be free to download for a 48-hour period, starting on October 4th. All good choices, so there’s no wrong vote, although I would personally encourage you to vote for Firewatch. I, uh, wanna play that one.

Anyway. It’s a cool site and a neat little promotion, so make sure you vote and come back for your free game. Can’t beat free, after all!
