The story goes, Coffee Stain Studios was making a completely unrelated game, but in a YouTube demo to show off the progress being made, they used a goat instead of the actual player avatar. Well, between the awkward physics and the randomness of the goat, people started asking for that demo instead of whatever their full game was supposed to be. There were a lot of bad, unfinished games out on Steam: it would be refreshing to have a developer in on the joke. Well, their cries were answered, and now Coffee Stain Studios is making a killing and having a good time doing it.
And now the devs will be taking a bold new step into the future of the gaming world with Goat Simulator’s new VR Mode, which will debut on the also newly announced PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 port of the game. In fact, they’ve taken such a far step into the future, they’ve completely overstepped the rest of VR technology and will have to wait for it to catch up.
"GoatVR is the most authentic ‘simulated GoatVR experience’ that doesn’t require a helmet or anything. Although it’s not quite ready yet we felt it better to stay ahead of the crowd and let it out into the wild. We still need to do that part where it connects to an actual headset but for now you can enjoy a simulated GoatVR experience without it.”
I’m not sure if this is exciting news for most: it’s ultimately just a port of a Steam game, but considering Coffee Stain studios has had an excellent sense of humor (and has been very generous with DLC) I figure it’s worth pointing out. Plus, whatever this VR mode is sounds hilarious, and I want to see it work in action.
The port is slated to come out August 11th, so just short of a full month. So get your headbuttin' horns ready.
