For today, let's talk Beard Blade, an upcoming indie platformer inspired by 16-bit legends such as Wario Land, Yoshi's Island, Ristar, and Super Mario RPG!
Currently, the title, brought to you by Glovebox Games, is on Kickstarter, seeking a goal of $95,000.
Fortunately, with 26 days to go at the time of this writing, $4,307 has been pledged, so with enough exposure, it should reach its goal!
Why do I say it should? Because it looks and sounds to be an absolute blast, and I'll prove it to you with an introduction:
Branson, also known as "Beard Blade," must reclaim the town's stolen goods and uncover the truth behind a dark secret (sounds a little bit like Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, doesn't it?). He relies on his trusty beard, which happens to be enchanted by powerful magic, making it more powerful than Chuck Norris' beard (which, as everyone knows, contains a fist, but you know what? Beard Blade's beard can BE a fist).
But what can you expect from Beard Blade?
Well, like the 16-bit platformer titles we know and love, you can attack, travel, and solve puzzles with your mighty beard. You can also change the style of your beard and change your moves with a talented barber. Additionally, you'll be able to explore vibrant worlds and meet a cast of humorous characters. On top of that, the game contains a mastery mechanic - i.e. if you time your skills just right, you'll be able to defeat foes and seek out hidden areas. Furthermore, you'll be able to take part in small side-quests and endure some hair-splitting puns!
Currently, if you're wary about throwing your hard-earned moolah at the Kickstarter, you can always try out the PC Demo right here. Just keep in mind that some controllers, such as the DualShock 3 and iBuffalo, will not work with the demo. However, the game does support Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers.
If funding is successful, expect the game to launch on Steam, though no other platforms are planned unless the campaign's future stretch goals are reached.
Currently, Beard Blade's is only between 20 and 25 complete, as the developers are aiming for a similar scope of content found in Wario Land 4.
So if your hairs are already bristling for this game to be fully funded, then you can head right on over to Beard Blade's Kickstarter page.
