A 15-year-old Wisconsin native has been sentenced to 40 years in a mental hospital after stabbing a classmate in order to appease Slender Man.

About 3 years ago, 12-year-old (now age 15) Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier lured classmate Payton Leutner into the woods of a park in suburban Milwaukee, where they attempted to kill her in order to win favor with Slender Man. Leutner survived by crawling out and getting help from a nearby cyclist.

Weier was sentenced to 25 years in a mental hospital in December. Geyser has pled guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide in October to avoid prison.

While prosecutors pushed to have Geyser administered to a mental facility, there have been conflicting opinions as to if that is the best choice. While Dr. Brooke Lundbohm believes that Geyser's condition has improved, she is still in need of treatment and remains a danger to herself and others. He also reports that she has been hearing voices since September.

In contrast to this, two Waukesha County doctors are reporting that Geyser no longer exhibits psychotic symptoms and recommends relocating her to a more lenient facility.

Judge Michael Bohren has declared that Geyer remains a risk, and to be administered to a mental hospital for a maximum 40 years.

Before her sentence, Geyser briefly spoke, breaking down in tears as she apologized to Leutner.

While this is a serious and unfortunate experience. It's important to recognize that the reason this happened was due to undiagnosed mental problems, and not the result of the popular story/video game, Slender Man.
