Last week, the Girl Scouts announced a new available badge for the girls to earn. The new patch is for video game design. The Boy Scouts of America created their badge series in the field in 2013. However, just like in the industry itself, support for women in video game design has fallen behind. To commemorate the event, the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles have teamed up with Women in Games International to host an event at Sony Playstation's Santa Monica Studio.

It is an impressive patch.

The event is happening today, October 1, from 10 am to 4 pm. Attendees will get a first hand look at the inner workings of a professional video game studio. From there, they will work on a prototype and test it out. The new badge works toward opening up new career paths that may not have been readily apparent before. The Girl Scouts have recently been making a stronger push to introduce girls to the STEM fields, and video game design is another great way to do that.
