Gigantic was revealed in 2015's PAX Prime, and when it was unveiled, it did a great job making huge waves across the industry: the team-based first-person shooter combined MOBAs with Team Fortress in a far more literal way than done before, with the main game mode pitting two teams of five against each other on a mission to kill the enemy team's giant monster before yours gets killed. It was an inspired, unique, and interesting take on the MOBA genre, and there were people (including myself!) who were extremely excited to see what became of it.

By the time the open demo was released this year, though, a lot of that energy had died, and Gigantic simply stopped being as big a deal (get it?!) as it used to be. The reviews are fine (7/10 ain't bad), but in a post-Overwatch world, colorful first-person shooters have a pretty high bar to cross and really high standards to meet, and by most accounts, Gigantic is good, but not good enough to stand toe-to-toe with Blizzard... especially since, as a free-to-play title, it does a few things that people find disagreeable.

Regardless, after two years, it's worth noting when a game is finally going to be released, and it seems Gigantic is finally ready to come out of beta and let people play for real.

The beta is still currently open on Arc and will be coming out of open Beta on the 20th of July. That's right around the corner.

So if you want to get some practice in before you start playing for real, now would be the chance to do it. but if you want to just keep ignoring this game, then hey: why fix what ain't broke, amirite?
