In early October, Genshin Impact announced that its RPG/MMO/Breath of the Wild combination was a winning one, and after a mere two weeks on the market, had already raked in over a hundred million bucks worldwide. A month and some change later, and it's clear that Genshin Impact's... well, impact, isn't going to dwindle any time soon.
This according to mobile analytics firm Sensor Tower, which just put out a report claiming that Genshin Impact has made more than $393 million in revenue since launching in late September... on mobile alone. That's about six million dollars every day, exclusively from Android and iOS sales, which easily tops the previous biggest mobile earners, Pokemon Go and PUBG mobile. Currently, it sits second only to Honor of Kings, a mobile game that’s way more popular in Asia than it is in the western world. Fortnite, of course, is currently not competing thanks to a certain lawsuit.
In any case, you can only imagine how much cash it adds up to when you factor in the PC and PS4 versions of the game.
As a reminder, Genshin Impact is a free-to-play game that many have hailed as being moderately fair. Content is unlocked via a Gacha-style gambling system, which you can either unlock via an in-game currency or with real-life cash. It seems virtual waifu gambling is big business, though, because they've apparently got a lot of "whales" — that is, people who spend exorbitant amounts of money in gambling games due to psychological problems — eating out of their hands.
Currently, Genshin Impact is planning to launch on both PS5 and the Nintendo Switch in the near future. Which, needless to say, should help cement this game's place as a top earner for the foreseeable future.
Another win for China, I guess.
