Everyone is calling them the Kryll 2.0

New information comes to us regarding the upcoming Gears of War 5, this time, as a GIF. The official Gears of War Twitter account recently unveiled a new monster, which they describe as "your worst nightmare."

They're called the Swarm Flock, a group of flying creatures known as Swarm Leeches. The Twitter post includes an animated GIF, showing this flock engulfing a companion for a moment before flying off.

While this new monster is framed as just that, new, many fans are arguing that this is by no means a new creature. They were quickly compared to the Kryll, an airborne monster that will swarm and attack the player should they find themselves in darkness. In Gears of War 2, this introduced a new "stay in the light" mechanic. We also see the Kryll in grenade form, acting as an Area-of-Effect, Damage over time explosive used by General RAAM.

There are differences between the Leeches and the Kryll, however. Not only do the Leeches have no distaste for light, they appear to cling to enemies, dealing additional damage after first expose. That makes sense, they're leeches.

New or not, it's good to see some gameplay of the title.
