It’s not uncommon to see games delayed nowadays--after all, a post-DLC Miyamoto was fond of saying that a delayed game is late by a few months, but a bad game is bad forever. And in the fast-paced world of video game development, where you’re dealing with things like uncooperative computers, clashing human egos, and more bugs than a South American Rain forest preserve, it only seems natural there would be some unexpected kinks that need to be worked out.
Which is what makes this bit of news so weird. Apparently Gears of War 4, the sequel to the trilogy that already ended and you forgot about, has been pushed FORWARD, not back.
Whereas before, Microsoft was saying gamers could expect to get their grubby paws on Gears of War 4 come Holiday, 2016, they’ve since pushed that vague estimation forward to Fall, 2016… so unless they were talking about halloween or thanksgiving, it’s safe to say they nudged the game forward a touch.
Nice.
Additionally, Microsoft said that the open beta for the game would roll around come spring, and that people who purchased Gears of War: ultimate edition would be given priority access to said beta. Lucky ducks, eh? Regardless, that’s oddly confident from Microsoft, to actually push things ahead… and part of me wonders if maybe it’s the result of them deciding to remove content for future DLC releases?
It’s sad that today’s industry has be thinking such tragic thoughts.
