…Sorry, I’m being unusually cynical today.
Anyway, the interviewees in question are Gears Franchise Narrative Director Bonnie Jean Mah and Gears Tactics' Design Director Tyler Bielman, who spoke with IGN about a number of topics, including how they make new protagonists, transitioning from an action game to a tactical one, and the narrative difference between different mediums. But what we’re really interested in is the bit where they talk about the future of the Gears of War franchise, and how it’ll thrive without their old head Rod Fergusson at the helm.
"Having [Rod] guide us and instill that Gears DNA into our studio, I am confident in saying that we live and breathe Gears and understand his intention for this franchise. We've been living it, we've been realizing his creative vision over the past six years. So now that he's gone off to new adventures, I feel like we have it in our studio blood and our studio gut feeling about what would happen next. And we do have hints of what he was thinking of, but he was also very open to new ideas for what would happen next."
So we’ll be seeing a lot more Gears of War in the future, it seems. If that’s good or bad, why not leave a comment below with your thoughts? I won’t read it. Nobody will read it. You’ll be screaming into a void, but hey: better than silence.
Anything is better than the silence.
