"These are official. This is a Duke 3D remaster. In many ways, you can look at this game as a Duke Nukem 3D remix as there will be a lot of new/original content added in as well. From my understanding, these screens are just a handful out of a bunch of press shots that will be coming out in the following days."
Looking back on that report, we can now safely say that the Duke Nukem 3D: World Tour rumor is 100 percent true. After all, it was yesterday that Gearbox Publishing unveiled the return of Duke Nukem 3D as Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary Edition World Tour, complete with a teaser trailer. Feel free to check it out below:
Admittedly, I've never played the Duke Nukem series, so I can't exactly provide a strong analysis or valid input in relation to the trailer, but I can say that the trailer for the Duke Nukem 3D remaster looks to retain its glory from the olden days. That being said, it's not exactly yelling "BUY RIGHT NOW!!" at me.
But who knows? Maybe the trailer, alongside the new features, will entice you.
"Wait. What kinda new features would be stuffed inside a game that'd celebrate the 20th anniversary of a landmark FPS franchise?"
Well:
"Hail to the King, Baby!" - In other words, a new episode will be made available to you. This episode will be packed with eight fresh levels, created by the original designers of Duke Nukem 3D, Allen Blum III and Richard "Levelord" Gray.
"Come Get Some!" - Translation: new original music, composed by Lee Jackson, who happens to be the man behind Duke Nukem's iconic theme "Grabbag" and the sound designer of Duke Nukem 3D. Did I mention that the original VO for Duke Nukem, Jon St. John, will deliver some new lines? Because he will. And they will be awesome because his voice is sexy.
"I've got Balls of Steel!" - AKA you'll be able to access the in-game development team commentary.
"I'm Lookin' Good!" - You'll have one of two options when it comes to playing Duke Nukem 3D; you can either play with the original 1996 graphics engine, or you'll be able to experience the game in high fidelity and a greater frame rate thanks to "True3D Rendering" mode.
Sounds exciting, no?
At least Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software, is!
"When I first moved out to Texas to join the Duke Nukem 3D development team in the mid-nineties, I could not possibly predict that we were all going to be part of the emergence of the 3D First Person video game genre that would ultimately impact the entire video game industry. Making it possible for Allen, Richard, Lee and Jon to all come back together 20 years later to bring a whole new episode to the classic game is just one of those rare and incredible things that I hope will bring joy and happiness to hardcore video game fans new and old."
So touching.
Expect this chaotic shooter to land on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam October 11, 2016 for $19.99. Worth the price? Well, that will be up in the air.
