GameTrailers Shuts Down After 13 Years

This was unexpected, sadly.

Wow, for some reason, I didn't expect this.

After 13 long years, GameTrailers has officially shut down. That's hard to believe, as I once thought they were doing well and they've been known for some time to be reliable for their reviews, trailers, and guides.

The editor-in-chief, Brandon Jones, tweeted, "today is the last day of GameTrailers. I wish it wasn't so."

Way back in 2002, GameTrailers launched, becoming a huge part in the world of Let's Plays and video-game journalism, as they helped shift dominance from text to video. According to the Facebook post:

"We're proud we helped bring this world into being. That is the legacy of GameTrailers."

For now, there's no new information about this unfortunate happenstance, but it is known that Defy Media actually purchased GT back in 2014. Layoffs since happened. Hopefully we'll see more information as to the why of GT's shutdown.
