Bound by Flame [PC, PS3, PS4, 360]-An action RPG with heavy Bioware influences... which isn't a bad thing at all. What it seems to be lacking in impressive graphics, there seems to be adequate compensation in a solid combat system and a mature storyline. Definitely has the potential to be a sleeper hit-- it's definitely priced right at only $40.

Wolfenstein: The New Order [PC, PS3, 360, PS4, XBone]-Killing Nazis in a FPS has been done to death... but if any game should rightly revisit that theme, it has to be the game that started it all. After a delay that would have originally seen a holiday 2013 release, hopefully Machine Games has had enough time to polish this alternate timeline World War 2 shooter to where it should be. As a bonus incentive, buying the game will get you into the beta for
Doom 4
Transistor [PC, PS4]-Supergiant Game's follow up to their incredible indie RPG
Bastion. Take on the role of Red in a cyber-punk futuristic RPG with stunning visuals and an innovative combat system. Highly likely to be the best game released this month.
Mugen Souls Z [PS3]-A weird game... even for Japanese RPG standards. It has features like a level cap of 9,999 and moves that do a billion points of damage. Some of the features, like the mini game in which you give your female characters a bath, have been removed from the USA version... similar to how the original
Mugen Souls was censored for western audiences.
Drakengard 3 [PS3]-Thanks to the success of recent games like
Bravely Default, there's a resurgence of interest in the JRPG genre... and definitely more of a push to release them in the US. Unfortunately the
Drakengard series has never really been all that good... but if you have a thing for anime girls with flowers coming out of their eye socket, you'll freak over this game.

Always Sometimes Monsters [PC]-At first glance the game seems to be a 16-bit era JRPG. When you delve a bit deeper you find that rather than taking place in a fantasy world where you ride giant chickens, this is very much grounded in reality. The game comes with a content warning about racism, sexism, homophobia, mental health, sexual assault, child abuse, animal abuse, drug abuse, and suicide... so yeah... probably would have never gotten the Nintendo seal of approval on SNES.

Watchdogs [PC, PS3, 360, Wii U, PS4, XBone]-Another holiday 2013 release that got pushed back. Ubisoft's highly ambitious open world hacking game with asynchronous multiplayer and a lot of other buzzwords. We've all known about this game for a long time now, it is finally time to see if it can live up to expectations.

Mario Kart 8 [Wii U]-Never scared to be in last place when you have the power of the almighty blue turtle shell. Wii U is in trouble... like
serious trouble-- and Nintendo is praying that
Mario Kart and
Smash Bros will at least turn things around a little bit for the ailing system. The hook this time are gravity defying tracks... or rather that it is a new game on a system starved for quality titles.
