So! Over the weekend, some prominent folks of the speed running community decided to get together for the yearly Summer Games Done Quick charity event, where games ranging from Super Mario Brothers, to Chrono Trigger—even Hello Kitty: Roller Rescue—are done as quickly as possible. Gamers donate, and money is raised for Doctors without Borders. It’s a good time for everyone involved!
Well, it’s a bit too late to enjoy the festivities (unless you want to watch them on Youtube, of course), but that doesn’t mean there isn’t news to be told. Specifically, it’s time to celebrate—because after it’s all said and done, the Summer Games Done Quick crew was able to raise a mind-boggling 1.2 million dollars for charity. Or, more precisely, $1.232,441.90.
The money comes from 28,466 donations spanning the whole of the week. The average donation was pretty generous, sitting at 43 bucks, but the high score for charity goes to the fellow who donated a whooping $21,498. Whoever you are, anonymous donor, you won the speed run challenge to our hearts.
Regardless, that’s it for them. That’s a pretty impressive number, all things considered—but let’s hope next year we trump that as well. There’s no such thing as too much money or charity!
