Nothing can kill this game! It's almost as if...

Now, I'm not any fan of Konami, and I wouldn't lie and say I was excited about their latest offering, Metal Gear Survive, which is an unholy fusion of Metal Gear Solid V and Day Z, but I have to admit that of all the moves Konami COULD make when it comes to the Metal Gear IP, Survive is just about the best we could have hoped for--a disjointed, disconnected story that has no real bearing on the now sacrosanct plot of the Metal Gear series, so they can still get that sweet name recognition and use the ascetics of the game without offending anyone too badly.

However, I also have to admit I'm in the minority there. And when Konami showed off a 15-minute demo of the stealth-focused survival game, the reaction on YouTube has been... predictable. Predictable enough that we would have a contender for the Modern Warfare video, were it not for the fact that Modern Warfare has a significantly larger fanbase.

First, the video itself:

In this world exclusive, METAL GEAR SURVIVE takes to the stage for the first time at TGS 2016. Join a squad of four players as they work together on a mission to infiltrate a dilapidated compound and then defend it from the onslaught of relentless creatures. Using co-op stealth, infiltration and defense tactics, and special new equipment and weapons, the squad provides a glimpse of both new and familiar survival gameplay elements that form METAL GEAR SURVIVE.

At the time of this writing, this video has about 251k views, and 6k dislikes, compared to the 1k likes. So, not well received. And it's hard to blame them; even objectively, the game doesn't look very good right now, with combat being slow and chunky, like something on the better end of the Steam Greenlight page... but I doubt that's cause for most of the outcry.

Regardless, Konami, being what it is, will probably take these complaints with stride, as they're more than aware that Survive will still make money. Unless, of course, people vote with their wallets, for once.

That said, a co-op Metal Gear Solid 5 sounds like fun. Too bad about the zombies, though.
