Game Seller G2A to Increase Transparency

A baby step is still a step in the right direction.

A few months ago, Gearbox got itself the seat of honor at the shaming table when it announced it would be teaming up with G2A to distribute the digital keys for their upcoming (or did it launch already? I don't care enough to check) re-release of Bulletstorm, a pretty OK game from earlier this decade. G2A, you see, is basically evil, allowing people to use the unregulated marketplace to sell stolen copies of a game, and not offering any insurance to those affected (the kind of thing most companies do for free) unless they pay for the privilege. That means when your game code is inevitably revoked by the company in question, both you and the company are screwed outta cash.

G2A was roasted by Gearbox in an effort to save face, but nothing really came of it, and in response, Gearbox pulled themselves out of their agreement with G2A. And while it may have taken a long time to actually happen, it seems to have had an impact on G2A, because they've finally announced some big changes in the way they operate.

Now, G2A is going to increase the transparency for buyers by forcing key sellers, who until this point have enjoyed anonymity, to provide their names and physical addresses before they put an item up for sale.  Funny thing about that, tho, is that they won't bother asking you what your address is: they're going to find and post it automatically to avoid people lying to get around the VAT, which will be added to all prices soon.

It might not be what everyone was asking for, but any step in the right direction is good enough for me, at this point. The changes will come along on July 1st, so we don't have a long wait before we see this come to pass.
