Today many learned that Hideo Kojima almost axed David Hayter when it came to voice acting Solid Snake back in 2004. David Hayter has been Solid Snake for a long time, until Kiefer Sutherland took over in
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. According to an interview with
Game Informer, he had to re-audition for the role of Solid Snake for Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Hideo Kojima was originally trying to obtain Kurt Russell, because Solid Snake was based off of Russell's character Snake Plissken from the 1981 film Escape from New York, though he unfortunately declined.
Hayter also rejected the idea of working with Kojima once more, especially since Kojima has left Konami. According to the interview:
"I've got no particular love for Kojima."
Not only that, but playing Metal Gear Solid V would have been "60 hours of humiliation."
That hits harder than it should. It seems as if he feels a little anger, but it's justified. After all, he was tossed out of an iconic role for ten years.
