Stardock's always been a nifty company, centering on handy quality-of-life software while delving deeply into the gaming world. Stardock, known for the Galactic Civiliation series, has decided to combine gaming with a major technological update--one that merges gaming with printing.

Stardock has proudly announced the 1.2 update of Galactic Civilizations III, which includes the ability to print 3D models of game assets! Furthermore, players can also share maps and new DLC relating to the galaxy-wide Mega Events. In Galactic Civilizations III, players had the ability to design and customize their ships, but now, design has taken another step further. With the capabilities of 3D printing, players can bring their ships to life. All players have to do is click on a button in game, which will lead them to a site where the in-game assets are evaluated. If the assets pass the evaluation, then the 3D model will be printed and shipped at a fee. Secondly, the update includes map sharing, where players can share maps with GCIII's map generator. Not only does this increase replayability, but players can finally show off to their friends their own creations!

Finally, the new DLC introduces Mega Events. According to designer Paul Boyer:

"Mega Events are galactic events that shake up the game. You might be heading toward diplomatic victory when suddenly a leader is assassinated. Maybe you're trying for a conquest victory when the Dread Lords return. Each event is an unexpected incident that will require your skill and strategy to overcome if you hope to be victorious."

The best part? The DLC is free for Elite Founders! However, others must pay $4.99.

You can read more about the update on the official site.
