The Star Citizen event that was held at Gamescom 2017 last night was extremely interesting. I knew that they were working on some major features for the game, but I was very focused in on their FOIP implementation. With this feature, the game will capture your facial expressions and movements in order to change the face of your character in real time.
If you're talking to a friend in the middle of a city, it might be hard for them to decipher who is talking to them. Being surrounded by 15 people and hearing several voices while no mouths are moving can become pretty confusing very quickly. If you can see that somebody is talking directly to you by watching their mouth to see if it matches the words, life becomes simple.
While the show did have some major and minor difficulties, it was a pretty good demonstration. The biggest problem was a crash that they endured, forcing them to restart the entire demo. I would have to say my absolute least favorite part of the demonstration was the cringe-filled roleplay conversations being had by the demo team, but what are you gonna do? Check out the edited video down below, crash-free.
