Frictional Games is back at it again. The studio behind the Amnesia series and SOMA has teased their next project. Currently referred to as "I am Tasi," a 30-second trailer has given us a great deal to speculate over.
The trailer begins with a woman's voice. This voice appears to be struggling with holding herself together in some capacity. She expresses a need to find some unnamed man, while they try to keep their eyes open. They tell themselves, "I am Tasi, I am still Tasi," before managing to open their eyes. From this, we see a desert in the middle of a sand storm. A dead tree and brown grass are in full view. Behind that is a craggy cave opening with a strange blue glow emanating out of the entrance.
So, in short, we have no idea what this game is aiming for in terms of plot.
Something we found particularly interesting is how the dialogue reminds us of the beginning of Amnesia. In the very beginning of The Dark Descent, the amnesia-stricken protagonist struggles to recall his identity. The phrase "I am... Daniel." is spoken. This scene is a striking parallel to the teaser trailer, where Tasi struggles to recall who she is. Saying she is STILL Tasi is undoubtedly an exciting twist on the idea, though.
This upcoming title may be another Amnesia game. Granted, SOMA also plays on the idea of lost or distorted identity, so maybe Frictional Games likes making people forget who they are. Another idea we had was that the protagonist is being possessed or haunted by another entity, one that looks to take over their physical form. Two minds trying to take control of one body is a classic horror concept, after all.
In the end, these remain to be nothing but educated guesses. The only way we will know for sure is when Frictional announces whatever this game is themselves. Stay tuned.
