If you visit the webpage nextfrictionalgame.com, which is branched off of the same hosting service plan as Frictional's main website, you'll be met by a black page with a small glowing orb in the center. At the bottom is the Frictional Games logo, links to their social media, and a newsletter signup option.
Begin the speculation!
Last we saw from the developer was SOMA in 2015, a sci-fi narrative horror based in a ruined underwater facility. About six months later, the company had announced that the game's success had allowed them to begin work on two new, unnamed projects. They also explain how if they make another game, they'd lean further into the genres, unlike SOMA.
"If we make another sci-fi game, we'll probably tone down the horror elements and make the sci-fi narrative more prominent. The reverse would be true if we made a new horror game. The idea is that this'll not only let us reach a new and wider audience, but also minimize the risk that people will mix up our games, and instead they'll see them as separate entities."
This was all said in mid-2016, giving Frictional about 3.5 years to work on these titles. It would be a fitting time to start revealing more information about the game.
There are still many unanswered questions about this game. Time will tell more and we will certainly be watching. stay tuned.
