Talk about a backwards strategy...

Lego has been going all out as of late. With Lego Worlds, the Lego version of Minecraft in Early Access, Lego Dimensions, Lego Jurassic World, and Lego Marvel's Avengers, 2015 has proved strong for the construction block company. So it's all the better for the company to toss in a relaunch of an MMO, correct?

Lego Minifigures Online is what we're referring to, a unique MMO that focuses on collecting over a hundred Minifigures for adventuring. Though it has been out as a Free-to-Play title for sometime, Funcom, the publisher of the title, has announced that the game will go Buy-to-Play on the 29 of July.

How backwards, considering that games usually go from Buy-to-Play to Free-to-Play.

According to the transition FAQ:

"During the initial run of the PC version of the game, we have collected player data and feedback, and have used this to make informed decisions about the continued development of the game. The buy-to-play business model will allow us to present a more fun and engaging gaming experience that we believe will resonate better with the target audience, thus we believe that the buy-to-play business model will be more commercially viable for LEGO Minifigures Online than the free-to-play business model."

Lego Minifigures Online is a multiplayer experience that includes "Minifigures," which come with its own personality and abilities. Players can mix and match these minifigures to build the ultimate team to explore the classic Lego-styled world. Newcomers can look forward to some environments, such as the Pirate World and Space World. In terms of adventuring, sometimes players must play together to fight through battles and unlock more abilities for their Minifigures.

The game is also cross-platform, so friends can play together, regardless of the platform.

Lego Minifigures Online will be released for PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam for $29.99 on July 29. For mobile platforms, the title will release at the comfortable price of $4.99.
