DLC? Yes. Costs money? Nope.

You know, I gotta say, I was not expecting this.

EA has made a big show out of trying to improve its image and divorce itself from the pedigree of its twice-won “Worst Company in America” reward.  And we doubted it, for good reason—and when we needed an example to cite as to why they would never improve, we pointed to Sims 4: a version of the Sims with less content than the earlier game (even lacking swimming pools and toddlers!) and we were oh-so-certain that those would be released at a later date as DLC.

But we were wrong.  According to a new update for the Sims 4 blog, there will indeed be new content added to the Sims… but at least, for now, they won’t cost any money.  They’ll be free content patches that will add new stuff for you to play with, including the Swimming Pool, over the next three months.

Gotta say, EA, you’re starting to walk the walk.

Here’s a rundown of the new content we can expect until the end of the year:
  • Currently live, the October Patch has introduced ghosts into the Sims: the souls of your fallen come back to haunt the halls of their former homes.  You can control these ghosts like any other Sim, but they’ll have certain qualities depending on how they died… and they’ll probably be 2spooky4you.  It also introduced new Costumes (Star Wars, because of course), and new eye colors.
  • November, the long-requested Swimming Pool will make a grand re-appearance, to the delight of everyone, except those who wanted to drown their toddlers.  Still no toddlers.
  • In December, more careers will be introduced for your Sims, which will come with new paths and rewards.
There are no more details about the November and December patches, but more will be forthcoming, according to EA.  What matters for this article is that EA did something nice for once.  I want to keep believing you, EA, I want you to be a god company through and through, don’t let me down again!
