Basically, people could order a participating GTX card, then immediately cancel the order. Despite the order being cancelled, a key for the key would be shipped to the user's email anyway.
Some people would outright abuse this method, obtaining multiple keys and selling them to others at a cheap price.
Well, Microsoft and the developer behind Gears of War 4 wanted none of that, so guess what happened today? The keys from the Amazon were revoked. A Director of Community for The Coalition confirmed the news via NeoGAF. However, he goes on to state that if a license has been accidentally revoked, then the user should contact NVIDIA with proof of purchase.
According to PezRadar:
"Hi all
We detected some Gears 4 Windows 10 keys were obtained illegitimately via our NVIDIA promotion. We have gone ahead and revoked keys that fell in this bucket. If you believe your key was incorrectly revoked, we highly recommend you contact NVIDIA support with proof of purchase to help out with this."
It just goes to show you that it's not always a good idea to obtain keys from the grey market. You never know where those keys have been.
