Things have slowed down for Pokemon Go. I called the last controversy to strike the app the end of the seemingly endless growth the app enjoyed, and either because or besides the whole mess with PokeRadar, I seem to have been right: the internet has moved on, and while Pokemon Go is still a comfortable facet of our lives, we're done hearing stories of stampedes, break-ins, or other irresponsible shenanigans being inspired by the game.
Mostly. Over in France, people are still a little bothered about the digital monster simulator: namely, French education minister Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, who plans to meet Niantic in order to make a very specific request: stop rare Pokemon from spawning in schools. And no, not because she worries they'll distract the kids: rather, she fears that they pose a security risk, if strangers try to sneak into campuses or schools trying to hunt for these rare creatures.
A threat that seems all the more astute, given that France is still technically in a state of emergency following the attacks in Nice and Paris.
No word on when this meeting will be, or if Niantic will oblige her, but if they've been willing to remove Poke-stops and stop Pokemon from spawning at places like the Holocaust museum, I'm sure they'll be open to the idea.
Might suck for the kids, but heck, that's just the kind of world we live in these days.
